Designing, Undesigning, and Redesigning

Design Center is a vibrant design studio at the University of Connecticut where students collaborate on real projects for clients inside the University and beyond. With a recent shift towards equity-centered design and working with partners focused on social good, Design Center students aim to co-create more sustainable, equitable, and just futures that benefit all communities. Under the guidance of my professor, I was tasked with developing a new brand identity that reflects the dynamic nature of the studio.

The first thing I did after recieving the brief was talk to my classmates about what Design Center means to them. Key ideas included experiential learning, an emphasis on collaboration, and intentionality throughout the design process. The bright color palette and subtle details in the letterforms of the logotype bring an element of playfulness that embodies the energy of the studio. The pattern, created by the logotype being repeated and overlapped, symbolizes the atmosphere of growth and trial and error that is welcomed in Design Center.
